Book Bird

 

I made this as a gift.

 

 

The box is origami, and I cut a small square of fabric for padding.

 

 

The bird is carved from Cherry and finished with Danish oil.

 

 

I found a gum pocket (the black line which runs through the head and onto the wings). I was very luck that this didn’t compromise the strength of the wood, and actually works well running through both the eyes at the same level.

 

 

Here is the piece with a hand for scale, I used my finger as a guide size when making it.

 

 

And finally here it is in use.
